Ill Health Procedure
Stage 1
Complete an ill health early retirement application form. These are available from Barnett Waddingham, the Plan administrator.
Stage 2
Your application form is returned to Barnett Waddingham and it is then sent to the Trustee’s independent medical advisor who will undertake the following if deemed necessary:
- Arrange for you to attend an independent medical assessment where you will be seen by a doctor that specialises in occupational medicine at a site as local as possible to your home.
- Contact your general practioner and/or your treating specialist for a medical report.
The Trustee’s independent medical advisor will review the file and send a report to the Trustee Secretary.
Stage 3
Using the medical reports received the Trustee Secretary will make a recommendation to the Trustee. The Secretary will:
- Inform you of the recommendation.
- Ask whether you accept or disagree with the recommendation.
Stage 4

If you accept the recommendation
The Trustee will review your case and make a decision.
The Secretary will then inform you of what the Trustee has decided.

If you don’t accept the recommendation
You should send any additional information you believe to be relevant to the Secretary.
The Trustee’s independent medical advisor will review your file, including any further information provided, and forward a further report.
